Bunn consistently brings reliable and quick-brewing coffee makers to the market. The NHBB is yet another top rated coffeemaker that is part of Bunn’s Velocity Brew models. With over 700 reviews on Amazon, at an average of 4 stars, it’s certainly one of the more popular Bunn models. So should you consider it? Well, check out the complete review before making any hasty decisions.

                    The Review

We begin with the most frequently cites pros and cons amongst the online reviews.

Please note: Although I am reviewing this top rated coffee maker, I have no experience using it. Instead, I summarize all of the most helpful reviews on this coffee maker from around the web. I do my best to make the reviews completely unbiased, making sure to cover both the positives and negatives of every coffee maker I review. The caveat to a speedy brew

If you aren’t already familiar with the Velocity Brew series, now would be a good time to let you in on the speedy brewer’s secret. The coffeemaker has a pre-heated water tank that runs 24/7 (so long as the machine is plugged in), which allows you to brew a pot in under 3 minutes.

For people who are concerned about higher PG&E bills or fire hazards from leaving an appliance plugged in, this is probably not the coffee maker for you.

If having an extremely fast brew time trumps the caveat of keeping your machine plugged in at all times, then this is probably a brilliant choice for most coffee drinkers.

Just keep in mind that if you keep your NHBB unplugged before use, you will need to wait 15 minutes for the pre-heating tank to be ready. Thus, turning the “velocity brew” into the “slow as molasses brew.” In other words, keeping this machine unplugged when it isn’t in use defeats its purpose completely.

A feasible solution to the 24/7 energy drain…

One commenter noted a plausible solution to having the coffee maker on 24/7: a wall socket on/off timer. Apparently they are inexpensive, so hey, sounds like a good solution to me!

You can count on a longer lifespan

As I stated in the intro, Bunn’s are very well-made when it comes to their durability. In general, they are far less-likely to crap out on you than many of the other popular consumer brands out there.

The longer lifespan applies to the NHBB model as well as noted by the majority of reviewers. Definitely a strong point for this coffee maker.

                    The Ratings

OK. Let’s break down each of the rating categories for the NHBB Velocity Brew.

                    The Price

At $99 at the time of writing, this is an auto drip that falls in the middle for me. I’m going to say the score should be a little bit higher though, given this machine’s higher than average lifespan.

                    Score: 3.5 stars

                    The Coffee Quality

The majority of reviewers have claimed that the coffee tastes good. A couple of things that may detract from this however is the flat filter basket (instead of conical), and the quicker flow and dispersion of the hot water over the ground coffee. Still, I think it’s safe to give this machine high marks.

                    Score: 4 stars

                    The Coffee Maker Quality

Well, there have certainly been complaints about the NHBB’s design. Leaks under the water tank as well as a dribbly carafe are some of the frequently cited quality issues. Fortunately, the great customer service that Bunn offers offsets what could have potentially been a lower score.

                    Score: 3 stars

                    Ease of Use

                    Score: 5 stars

                    Cleaning Ease

At the time of this review, 48 reviewers of the 757 cited that the coffee maker is easy to clean. This certainly isn’t an overwhelming percentage, but it’s still good enough for 4 stars.

                    Score: 4 stars

                    Durability

If you don’t get 5 years out of this coffee maker, you can at least feel confident in the fact that Bunn backs their products if an when malfunctions arise. Durability is one of the main reasons to buy a Bunn coffeemaker.

                    Score: 5 stars

                    Appearance

Pretty industrial-looking, but definitely not ugly.

                    Score: 4 stars

                    Brew Speed

If you’re not buying a Bunn Velocity Brew for its durability, then you’re definitely buying it for its brew speed of 3 minutes or less.

                    Score: 5 stars

                    Versatility

By no means is it packed with features, but being able to brew as fast as it does keeps the score in the middle.

                    Score: 3 stars

                    In Conclusion…

You get good coffee, fast with the Bunn NHBB. It comes with some price tags though, such as an increased electricity bill and some minor design flaws.

But if that isn’t as big of a drawback as the pull of incredible durability, then this is a good, safe choice for your home coffee-making needs.
